Macintosh Fetch Setup

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) allows you to transfer files between your machine and another one connected to the internet.
Most public FTP servers accept a login of anonymous with a password of your email address.
One of the best places to find the locations of FTP servers is the web.

Warning: Transferring files opens your computer up to the possibilty of downloading computer viruses.
You should always check any software you have downloaded for viruses before using it.

Once you have installed Fetch onto your Macintosh you should see an icon located somewhere on your computers desktop.
When you select this icon you should see the following Dialog box appear.

As you can see you will be confronted with four boxes. However you will only need to fill in the first three fields, the Directory field can be left blank.
Host: homepages.demon.co.uk
User ID: Your Demon Hostname
Password: Your Demon Login Password

When you have entered your login information Press Ok and you will see the following Dialog box.

You will see on the left a main file window. The files shown here are only an example, unless you have actually uploaded any files the main window will normally be empty.
You will see two buttons in this dialog box Put File and Get File, they will allow you to upload and download files from your Personal Webspace.

Put File : When you select this button you will see

From here you can search your computer for the file that you wish to upload.
Once you have found the required file you need to highlight it as shown above and then select Open.
You will see another small Dialog box which just asks you to confirm that you are uploading to the correct destination.
When you are happy that the information is correct press Ok and the file you specified will be Uploaded from your computer to the Remote/Homepages space on the Demon Homepages server.

Get File :
When you want to Download a file from your Web Space simply press Get file.

If you know the location of the file you want to Download, then simply specify a Path e.g /index.html.
If you can see the file you want in the Main file window just Double click on it and you can choose where on your computer to save the file to.

After clicking on the Get file button you will see a dialog box, you can save the file you have selected to download into any existing folder, or create a New folder purely for Downloads.
Having a download folder would enable you to keep track of all downloaded files, as it will always be apparent where your downloaded files are kept.
