Macintosh OSX Mail ( Note: This software is not supported by our Helpdesk ). Please see our Important Notice, we recommend that you read it before you proceed. Setting up a Mail Account Open the Mail program by clicking on its icon in the Dock. If it is the first time you have run Mail on this computer, you will be prompted for your email settings immediately.
Type in the details as requested - your email address is of the form:
and should be entered all in lower case. If you have a domain, type your domain email address here instead of your Demon one. The Incoming Mail Server is a POP server and its address is pop3.demon.co.uk. The User Account ID is your hostname (all in lower case), and the Password is the one you chose when you set your account up. See our Names & Password Conventions guide. The Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server is post.demon.co.uk. Once you have entered this information, click OK. The Mail program will try to connect to the mail servers to check that the settings are correct. If you are not connected to the Internet, an error will appear. This doesn't mean there's a problem, it is just because Mail can't see the servers while you are offline.
You may be asked if you want to import your email from another mail program. This is entirely up to you, but we recommend that you use one email program to avoid confusion and loss of mail so if you have previously used another mail program on this computer, say Yes.
Your Mail program has been set up and is ready to use.
If the Mail Settings window didn't appear when you opened Mail or you need to make changes to your account, go to the Mail menu and choose Preferences...
Click on Create Account or select the appropriate account and click Edit depending on what you want to do.
Enter the account information as described above. Once you are connected to the internet you can send and recieve email.
