Balsa eMail ( Note: This software is not supported by the Demon Helpdesk ). Please see our Important Notice, we recommend that you read it before you proceed. Balsa is avaliable from http://www.balsa.net/. It is an email using the GTK interface & as such requires some gnome libaries. The program can be launched from typing balsa & in your favourite terminal emulator, or may appear in your Gnome menus under Programs | Internet. Upon opening the program you will be faced with the following screen shot.
Click Next
Enter your full name in the text box provided. See our Names & Password Conventions guide. Click Next.
The above defaults should be sufficient, however, advanced users may wish to change them. Click Next.
This is Balsa's main screen. Select Settings | Preferences
You may wish to make some changes in the Identity section.
The mailbox name is used to distinguish between the different accounts you may have. Server should always be pop3.demon.co.uk, the POP3 port is 110.
See our Names & Password Conventions guide. If you wish to mirror your mail, leave Delete from server unchecked. Make sure you select Check, or you will not be able to collect your mail. Once these steps have been completed you should be ready to use Balsa. Most functions are self explanatory, however, should you require help, the Balsa FAQ can be found at http://www.balsa.net/faq.html, and the mailing list can be found at http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/balsa-list.
