How to setup and connect to the Windows XP Connection Setup Please see our Important Notice, we recommend that you read it before you proceed. Note: Customers wishing to have unmetered access in conjunction with BT Surftime should use the appropriate G5 number shown on our access number page. For 128kbit/s speed over ISDN or access while abroad, via mobile phones and other specialised numbers at Pay-As-You-Go rates click here. Click on Start and then Connect To.
Select Show all connections.
Click on Create a new connection. Your screen should now look like the one below :
Click Next >
Leave Connect to the Internet selected and click Next >
Select Set up my connection manually and click Next to continue to the next screen.
Select Connect using a dial-up modem and click on Next.
Type the name you would like this connection to be known by, then click on Next.
Enter the area code and phone number in the relevant boxes, in this example we have used 0845 212 0666. Standard Dial up and Premier Connect Plus customers can see our Access Numbers guide for a complete list covering BT and non-BT lines. Click on the Next > button. Enter your hostname all in lower case in the Username: box and your dial-up password, which is case sensitive, in both the Password: and the Confirm password: boxes. Note that your password is not shown on the screen. See our Names & Password Conventions guide. It is up to you which of the tick-boxes you select, but we would advise that you enable the firewall. If you intend to use this connection as the one you normally connect with, select Make this the default Internet connection. Click the Next > button.
If you want to, tick Add a shortcut to this connection to my Desktop. Click Finish. Setting up the Windows XP Internet connection is now complete. Click here to set up your email. To connect using this connection either double-click on the connection's icon on the desktop if you created one or click Start, then Connect To and choose the appropriate connection from the list. Once the connection's window is open, click Dial. When you have connected, an icon will appear in the System Tray at the bottom right hand corner of the screen (next to the clock). When you want to disconnect, right-click on this icon and choose Disconnect.
