How to setup and connect using Trumpet Winsock ( Note: This software is not supported by our Helpdesk ). Please see our Important Notice, we recommend that you read it before you proceed. Note: Customers wishing to have unmetered access in conjunction with BT Surftime should use the appropriate G5 number shown on our access number page. For 128kbit/s speed over ISDN or access while abroad, via mobile phones and other specialised numbers at Pay-As-You-Go rates click here. Trumpet Winsock is the connection software supplied for Windows 3.x users to make the connection to Demon Internet.
Firstly, go to FILE and choose SETUP.
Replace Your IP Address with your Demon IP address. The Name Server Address should be 158.152.1.58 and 158.152.1.43 (leave a space between the addresses). Next: Internal PPP should be selected. The Slip Port (more commonly known as Com Port) will depend on whether the modem is internal or external. 1 and 2 are usually used for external modems, 3 and 4 for internal. If there is no response from the modem, check that this is set to the Slip/Com Port that the modem is installed on. The Baud Rate setting is dependent on the speed of modem you are using. For a 14.4k modem it is best to use 19,200. 28.8k and 33.6k modems can use 57,600. If you cannot establish a reliable connection, try lowering Baud Rate.
To connect to Demon Internet, go to Dialer and choose Login. You will be prompted to enter your hostname and your password, then click Ok.
You will then be prompted to enter the telephone number. Standard Dial up and Premier Connect Plus customers can see our Access Numbers guide for a complete list covering BT and non-BT lines.
