How to setup and connect to the NT4 Connection Setup Please see our Important Notice, we recommend that you read it before you proceed. Note: Customers wishing to have unmetered access in conjunction with BT Surftime should use the appropriate G5 number shown on our access number page. For 128kbit/s speed over ISDN or access while abroad, via mobile phones and other specialised numbers at Pay-As-You-Go rates click here. Step 1 - Installing Dial-up Networking This is a step by step guide to install and set up Windows NT4 Dial-up Networking to connect to Demon. You WILL need your NT4 installation media (probably a CD) to complete this installation. The first thing you have to do, is to install Dial-up Networking. To do this, double-click on the My Computer icon at the top of your desktop. You should be presented with a screen very similar to the one below.
Once this screen is open, you should double-click the Dial-up Networking icon If you have not installed it before, you should be presented with the window shown below...
Click Install on this window. This will install Dial-up Networking onto your PC. Note: You will then be required to apply the service pack again to update Dial-up Networking. After Dial-up Networking is installed you should be presented with a warning that the phone book is empty, as shown below.
Step 2 - Configuring Dial-up Networking Click OK to add an entry - this should bring up the following screen.
This screen simply asks you to name your connection. You can call it anything you like but we suggest calling it Demon Internet. After you have entered the name of the dial-up connection, you should click the NEXT button. This will take you to the second stage of the wizard, as shown below.
In this window you should click the two top tick boxes. This is very important as it determines how your details will be sent on to Demon when you try to connect. After you have finished with this screen, you should again click the NEXT button which should take you to the following screen.
Here you should enter the phone number you need to dial to connect to Demon. In this example it is 08452120666. Click NEXT, this will take you to the following stage of the wizard.
In this screen it allows you to specify the type of protocol to use with the connection, Click NEXT, this will show the screen shot below.
At this point click on the radio button for None. Click NEXT,
If you know your static IP address enter it here, otherwise leave as shown with four zeros. Click NEXT to bring up the next stage.
Enter the DNS server address of 158.152.1.58 in the DNS Server box. Click NEXT to bring up the next stage of the wizard as shown below.
Click NEXT to finish the setup. After you have clicked Next you should be presented with a screen similar to the one below. On this screen you should click the More button then select the Edit entry and modem properties as shown below:
After you have selected the Edit entry and modem properties option, you should be presented with a screen where you click the tab that says Server as shown below.
Make sure that the screen you have on screen is exactly as shown in the screenshot above, then click TCP/IP Settings. This will open the following screen:
When you open this screen, there may only be a single DNS server address shown. If you are connecting via a modem: Enable Server Assigned IP Address. Enable Specify Name Server Addresses. Enter 158.152.1.58 as the Primary DNS and 158.152.1.43 as the Secondary DNS. Click the OK button until you are back to the screen where it says Dial at the bottom of the window. When you are back to this screen click Dial, this should bring up the following screen. If you are connecting via ISDN: Enable Server Assigned IP Address. Enable Server Assigned Name Server Addresses. Click the OK button until you are back to the screen where it says Dial at the bottom of the window. When you are back to this screen click Dial, this should bring up the following screen.
Enter your hostname and login password. It is VERY important to note that there should be nothing in the Domain: field. If there is something entered in this field, the connection attempt may fail. After clicking OK, the modem or ISDN Terminal Adapter should dial and connect to Demon Internet.
