Internet news ( Note: This software is not supported by the Demon Helpdesk ). Please see our Important Notice, we recommend that you read it before you proceed. To set up Internet News follow these simple steps:
Click the News option on the toolbar, and select Options.
When posting, save a copy in ‘Posted Messages’ folder. When selecting, automatically select entire word. Include original message in reply. In the News sending format section, ensure the following is selected: Plain text. Indent with this character > when replying to a newsgroup. Click the Server tab.
See our Names & Password Conventions guide. Organisation can be left blank. Enter your email address in the Email Address field and in the Return Address field. Click Add.
Select the option I use a modem to access my newsgroups. Ensure your Demon Internet Dial-Up Networking connection is selected within the Use the following Dial-Up Networking connection: drop down list. Select Automatically connect to this server.
The News Server port is 119. Ensure there is a tick to the left of Use newsgroup descriptions option.
Enter your hostname in the User Name: box. See our Names & Password Conventions guide. Put a tick to the left of the Save Password, this saves the password and negates entering it everytime you check the newsgroups. Click OK. The computer will dial and connect to Demon Internet news server.
Once connected Internet News will download a list of the newsgroups that are available from the Demon Internet news server.
When it is finished it will display a list of the available newsgroups.
For this example we shall subscribe to demon.announce, type in the Display newsgroup which contain: field, demon.announce . To subscribe to a newsgroup, highlight demon.announce in the Newsgroups field. Click the Subscribe button.
Click the drop-down button to the right of the Newsgroups field, this will show all the newsgroups you have subscribed to.
