Unlimited Email Addresses

When you join Demon Internet you choose a hostname - this becomes the name we use to identify your account. Everything that is done to your account, either by us or by you, revolves around your hostname.

This is true for your web address, emails and any other account details.

With your Demon Internet account you get an unlimited number of email addresses.

When someone is sending you an email, it must have an individual address to allow the Internet mail servers to deliver the email to the correct recipient.

If there are several people at your address, the emails can be sorted depending on a username. Therefore the email address would take the form:
username@hostname.demon.co.uk

An explanation of the email address:

username : This can be anything of your choice, i.e. your firstname or company name.

(Note: Demon does not need to know this information)

hostname : This is the name you chose when joining Demon and cannot be changed.
@ : (Pronounced "At"), is the symbol that separates the username from the Domain name.
demon.co.uk : the domain to which your hostname/subdomain belongs.

When you give your email address to a friend etc. you would give:

username@hostname.demon.co.uk

Then, when that person sends you an email it waits on our servers until you connect to Demon and collect your email.

Our servers are only interested in the part of the address after the @ symbol, therefore anything before the @ symbol is ignored.

You will receive anything addressed to @hostname.demon.co.uk.
You can then set up your email client on your local computer to filter the mail to the intended recipients by using the username section of the email address.

Some example email addresses:

sales@myhostname.demon.co.uk
kevin@myhostname.demon.co.uk
room4@myhostname.demon.co.uk

All these email addresses will be delivered to @myhostname.demon.co.uk.
They can be filtered by your email client to sales or kevin or room4.
