Windows LeechFTP Setup
( Note: This software is not supported by our Helpdesk ).
Please see our Important Notice, we recommend that you read it before you proceed.
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) allows you to transfer files between your computer and another one connected to the Internet.
Most public FTP servers require you to login, and usually accept a login username of 'anonymous' with the password being your email address.
One of the best places to find the locations of FTP servers is the World Wide Web.
Warning: Transferring files opens your computer up to the possibility of downloading computer viruses. You should always check any software you have downloaded for viruses before using it.
Open LeechFTP by double-clicking on the icon, or choosing it from the Start > Programs > FTP
You should then see a panel similar to the one below.

To add a bookmark (an ftp site you wish to log on to) click on the icon that looks like a book on the toolbar.

First of all we must create a Folder to hold the bookmarks.
Click on Edit.

Click Add Folder.
A folder icon will appear with a text box to type in a name for the folder, type Demon FTP and press return.
A folder has now been created. Now you need to create a bookmark.
Click on Edit again.

Then click on Add Bookmark.

To transfer files to and from an FTP server:
In the Host or URL text box type ftp.demon.net.
In the Username text box type anonymous.
In the Password text box type your full email address (username@hostname.demon.co.uk).
Make sure the radio button for Anonymous login is dotted.
Once these details are correct, click on OK to connect to the FTP server.
To transfer files to and from your Demon Homepages Server (also known as uploading your website):
In the Host or URL text box type homepages.demon.co.uk.
In the Username text box type your Demon hostname.
In the Password text box type your login Password.
Make sure that the radio button for Personal login is dotted.
Once these details are correct, click on OK to connect to the Demon Homepages server.

Double clicking the ftp.demon.net icon will connect to the Demon FTP Server.

Looking at the example above you can see Leech is segmented into 4 sections.
The top section is the status area, this tells you what's going on.
The bottom left is the information area, giving information on things like what is queued for download or upload, the number of threads running, downloads completed and any failures that may have resulted.
The bottom middle is your Local Hard disk (the hard disk in your computer).
The bottom right is the Remote Hard disk (the hard disk on the ftp server).
To download a file, navigate to a file you want by double-clicking on the directory of your choice on the Remote server and highlight the file.

Clicking on the download button on the toolbar, (a red arrow pointing downward to a hard disk symbol) will download the file to the directory shown on the Local Hard disk.
See the screen shot below for guidance.
