Turnpike (Universal Licence)

One off £199.00 inc VAT

Benefits

Need email or newsreader client software to use with another ISP?

If you wish to use Turnpike with another ISP, in the UK or abroad, then you will need to purchase this Universal Licence. From Turnpike Six v6.07 you can now run up to 255 email users on your LAN concurrently without further payments for multi-user licences.

Turnpike is an email and newsgroup handler, enabling you to send and receive email, and subscribe to, read, and post to newsgroups. Turnpike holds the Good Net-Keeping Seal of Approval, and we continue to have no reports of any virus targeting Turnpike. Powerful routing rules allow you to send your incoming mail to whichever nested folder(s) you wish; or you can just use the defaults. For newsgroups, Turnpike functions as an offline reader for newsgroups, rather than an online one, but with Broadband you can use it as a pseudo-online reader.

Email and news is collected by a single machine, which is then shared by up to 255 people on a LAN. Turnpike routes email to whomever it is addressed, keeping it secure from other LAN users. Users on a single Turnpike-equipped LAN can email each other, as well as outside addresses.

Turnpike gives each user their own view of news - for example, which newsgroups they are subscribed to, what they have read and not read, what they have marked 'Interesting' or 'Uninteresting' - but cleverly aggregates everyone's individual needs so that any given posting in any given newsgroup is only fetched once, no matter how many users are subscribed.

You can thread mail if you wish. This is particularly useful on any mailing lists you might be subscribed to, each of which you can treat as mail in its own folder, or as a Newsgroup. The latter allows you to expire the postings, just like a newsgroup.

Turnpike can also act as a POP3 or IMAP server, and be read by programs like Microsoft Outlook (please note that this is an unusual and unsupported arrangement that experts on the Turnpike newsgroup sometimes provide self help and advice for).

Enhancements

What's new in Turnpike Six 6.07 compared to Turnpike Six 6.06

  • Compatible with Windows Vista operating system.
  • Supports up to 255 concurrent users without the need to buy a Multi-User Site Key and irrespective of the type of Site ID in use.
  • Call Costs files updated as BT has withdrawn its SurfTime discount scheme. Call rates on SurfTime numbers are lower than 0845 prices and this is reflected in the Price Calculator Tariff files.
  • Increased space allowed for Kill Rules and Mailbox Rules.

What's new in Turnpike Six 6.06 compared to Turnpike 5

  • Easier setup on Broadband and Leased Lines
  • Support for Demon Dial Companion for Broadband
  • Support for PGP 8 which facilitates email encryption in Windows XP environments. Turnpike Six automatically detects and uses previously installed PGP versions 5, 6, 7 and 8. It supports PGP 7 previously issued as part of the Demon service package for Windows 95 and Windows 98 environments
  • Turnpike Six 6.06 can verify "PGP" signed messages that have been signed with subkeys. PGP itself does not sign messages in this way but GPG (commonly used on Unix systems) may do. All Turnpike Six 6.06 users are able to authenticate messages from colleagues* that sign using this method.
  • Folders containing unread messages have emboldened icons
  • For dial-up users that use Turnpike to track call costs, the call price calculator tariff files reflect changes in BT minimum call charges, which were valid from 1st May 2006, and the unmetered weekday deal for Premier Connect Plus and Business ISDN accounts operating on a THUS Direct Voice line
  • Demon Dial-up numbers updated and include sub-0845 rate, unmetered and international access numbers
  • Security warning when attempting to view a potentially malicious JPEG image inline
