Benefits

Demon MailDefender is an Internet-based service that identifies and quarantines spam messages (junk mail) as well as virus-bearing emails before they even reach your organisation's mail server, let alone the end user. Only Demon MailDefender checks for anti-virus updates every five minutes, has user-adjustable spam filtering for virtually any computing platform, and monitors email addresses at up to six different domains, all as standard.

  • Frees up your network bandwidth and mail server capacity.
  • User-customisable anti-spam filtering.
  • Stops 100% of known viruses* and endeavours to stop unknown ones too.
  • Virus definitions are checked for updates every five minutes.
  • Free optional virus-scanning of outgoing messages to reassure your customers and contacts.
  • Email identified as spam or virus is quarantined for 21 days.
  • If your mail server has an outage, we continue retrying to deliver your scanned messages for five days.
  • IT manager stays in control with an administrator login.
  • Supports organisations with users at multiple domain names.

* "Known Viruses" means viruses that have been listed on the anti-virus web site "Sophos", www.sophos.com, for at least eight minutes prior to the time of scanning

Features

  • We manage the service, its hardware and its updates, which takes that headache away from you. It frees up your network bandwidth and mail server capacity to handle core business tasks.
  • Within the basic MailDefender subscription you can opt to virus-scan outgoing messages as well at no further cost, optionally adding a reassuring footer to each email to say that a scan has been carried out.
  • All users in your organisation are given access to their own secure remote MailDefender mail box where they can view their quarantined email for up to 21 days, providing plenty of time to retrieve any messages they want. They can even modify their own personal filter settings.
  • Allows up to six different domains as standard, so multinational companies may assign several territorial email addresses to certain staff.
  • Order as few as 15 user licences and expand to up to tens of thousands of employees.

MailDefender FAQs

Technical Info

  • The MailDefender service is available as an extra-cost option for customers owning a private mail server running SMTP with any of the following products:
    • Business Broadband (non-NAT configurations only)
    • Internet Leased Line access (Demon Superstore)
    • National Ethernet or
    • HSI (High Speed Internet)

  • MailDefender's virus definitions are checked for updates automatically every five minutes. The scanner even seeks out potentially new, yet-to-be-identified viruses using heuristics.
  • You do not lose your messages should your mail server go down for an extended time. While you are waiting for your mail server to be restored, MailDefender automatically continues to scan and queue incoming messages for up to five days. When your mail server comes back onine, MailDefender delivers your queued messages. Messages queued for more than five days expire and the sender is told their message was undeliverable.
  • Demon MailDefender is independent of the desktop platform. Since it operates in our network independently from end-user computes and is based on common Internet standards, it doesn't care whether your desktop is running a Windows, Mac OS or Unix operating system.
  • IT managers are given an administrator login, where they can add and delete users within their pool of end-user licences. So when employees leave, it is easy to redeploy licences without extra charges.
