THUS Passes 2,000 Ethernet Links Milestone

Scottish Widows and Computer Cab select THUS Ethernet services

THUS plc today demonstrated continuing strong demand for its Ethernet service by announcing that it has provided more than 2,200 Ethernet links to customers across the UK, a 100 percent increase in less than a year. The latest companies to sign up for THUS's Ethernet services are Computer Cab , London's largest supplier of licensed radio taxis, and Scottish Widows, one of the most recognised brands in the life, pensions and investment industry.

Scottish Widows has chosen THUS to provide a Gigabit Ethernet backbone across three of its core sites in Edinburgh, with other sites connected by 100Mbps Ethernet connections. The network carries all of Scottish Widows' major business applications.

Computer Cab has selected THUS Ethernet for the main data link between its contact centre and head office, both in London. The network is supporting the three London taxi fleets, ComCab, DataCab and Call a Cab, in the's day-to-day operations, transporting information including taxi booking data and account updates.

"Ethernet in the local area network has been ubiquitous for some time, but we are now seeing demand for wide area Ethernet networking grow as more organisations become aware of the benefits. Ethernet is well suited to meet the growing demand for reliable, high bandwidth wide area networks for applications such as storage area networking and disaster recovery," said Phil Male, Chief Operating Officer of THUS plc. "We were ahead of the game in launching our Ethernet services, first for the metropolitan network with our City Ethernet service and then for the wide area network with National Ethernet."

Commenting on the choice of THUS as its Ethernet supplier, Bernie Connor, IT Director, Computer Cab, said: "Computer Cab has a commitment to develop technological solutions for faster, more efficient order taking, taxi allocation and despatch, as well as data retrieval and billing. Our heavy reliance on technology through services such as online booking and the provision of real-time online account information means that we need a reliable, high bandwidth network. THUS took the time to understand our needs and the Ethernet service enables us to get on with serving our customers."

THUS's National Ethernet service allows the high bandwidths operating on a business' local area network to be maintained over the wide area network whilst at the same time simplifying the overall network architecture that a company has to manage. National Ethernet delivers more affordable higher bandwidth networking, allowing businesses to engineer their IT focused processes to suit their needs. Available nationally across the UK, National Ethernet is ideal for allowing branch sites to access centralised applications and storage as businesses consolidate their IT infrastructure into one or several data-centres. The flexible bandwidth feature allows businesses to pay for the bandwidth that they need and to scale this bandwidth during peak business periods. National Ethernet also supports voice and data applications allowing businesses to converge their voice and data networks and to benefit from an even greater return on investment.
