THUS Now Largest UK ADSL Provider After BT...

After strong second quarter growth in the number of subscribers to THUS plc's Demon Express portfolio of broadband ADSL Internet access services the Company believes it is now the largest supplier of ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) Internet services in the UK after BT.

Demon Express services are specifically tailored to meet the needs of small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and small office/home office (SOHO) businesses. Effective from today THUS is to broaden the appeal of one of the most popular of these services - Demon Express Plus - by halving the installation charge to £125 for all orders received before the end of the year. Always-on and un-metered bandwidth of up to 512 kbps to the user and 256 kbps from the user will cost £95 per month.

And from 10th December 2001 all new orders for Demon Express Plus will be installed using Rate Adaptive technology (RADSL). RADSL increases the maximum range of the Express Plus service from its current 3.5 km to 5.5 km - more businesses stand to benefit from always on, high speed connection to the Internet.

Bill Allan, THUS Chief Executive, said, "ADSL is one of the key enablers of the new economy, and it's very gratifying to have become the largest DSL internet provider in the UK after BT. We are committed to providing straightforward solutions for our customers, and with the lower price for Demon Express Plus installation, and extended range, many more smaller businesses can benefit from permanent access to the Internet using a cost effective alternative to leased lines. Instant access to always-on capability, e-mail, and shorter download times, makes for improved efficiency, increased productivity and greater cost-savings. With a web presence, companies can compete in global e-commerce marketplace that never closes."
