Press release 17/07/2000
Internet and E-commerce become household Commodities Thus provides infrastructure for roll out of voice, Internet and e-commerce to ScottishPower's home users Thus plc has joined forces with ScottishPower to rollout its voice and Internet services to ScottishPower's domestic customer base of five million homes. The project will consist of two phases; firstly the launch of voice telephony services, followed by Internet access to facilitate ScottishPower's online and e-commerce strategy. Thus and ScottishPower have a complementary range of products for which considerable synergies exist. The advanced portfolio of services offered by Thus, representing a wealth of opportunities to the vast domestic customer base, will be promoted by the sales and marketing expertise of ScottishPower, whose customers are currently offered both gas and electricity. By potentially offering them voice and Internet services, it will open up the ScottishPower customer base to other online and interactive solutions. ScottishPower customers will also benefit from highly competitive tariffs compared with BT's standard rates. "The combination of Thus's network and products with ScottishPower's utility expertise provided the company with a strong position to exploit legislative changes, for example the unbundling of the local loop, which will open up the domestic telecoms sector to further competition." said Willie MacDiarmid, ScottishPower Sales and Supply Managing Director. "We are extremely pleased to enable ScottishPower's customers access to our telecommunication services. This initiative complements our strategy to become a leading provider of telecommunication services UK-wide." said William Allan, chief executive of Thus plc.
